ITINERARY

DAY 1 | MONDAY 5 MARCH 2018

1ST OF 4 NIGHTS AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL ADELAIDE

ARRIVE ADELAIDE:

Guests arrive at the hotel. We recommend arriving by 4pm.

In the early evening we attend a delicious three-course welcome dinner at an award-winning restaurant. We meet our Tour Leader, Anna Goldsworthy and are given an introduction to the tour.

DAY 2 | TUESDAY 6 MARCH 2018

2ND OF 4 NIGHTS AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL ADELAIDE

ADELAIDE:

In the morning we have a talk by Anna Goldsworthy about the evening’s performance.

After our talk we will have a guided tour of the David Roche Foundation House and Museum, which is comprised of the collection exhibited in David Roche’s home, Fermoy, and in the newly designed exhibition building next door. One of the greatest decorative arts collections in a private institution in Australia, it spans the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries and includes European furniture, ceramics, metal ware, clocks and paintings. On our tour we enjoy the sumptuous house interiors crammed with objects collected over a lifetime and admire individual objects of art displayed in the museum.

In the late afternoon we have the privilege of attending a private Q&A with Anna Goldsworthy and Rachel Healy, Co-Artistic Director of the Adelaide Festival. Following the Q&A we will attend the final performance of Glyndebourne Festival Opera's production of Brett Dean's Hamlet directed by Neil Armfield.

DAY 3 | WEDNESDAY 7 MARCH 2018

3RD OF 4 NIGHTS AT THE INTERCONTINENTAL ADELAIDE

In the morning we have a talk by Anna Goldsworthy about the performance we will hear this evening.

After our talk we will go on a guided tour of the Art Gallery of South Australia. Housed in one of Adelaide’s most beautiful buildings, this is one of Australia’s great art collections, with over 35,000 works of art. It is renowned for its collections of Australian art, notably indigenous Australian and colonial art, British art, including a large collection of Pre-Raphaelite works, and Japanese art. The Art Gallery welcomed close to 800,000 visitors last year. Our tour will take us to visit some of the gallery’s most notable works. Following the tour we will enjoy a two-course lunch at the Art Gallery of South Australia.

The afternoon is free for us to visit any aspect we may choose of Adelaide and the festival. The Adelaide Writers' Week, a free six-day event, takes place in the Pioneer Women's Memorial Garden, a shady lawn on the edge of the Torrens River. You might consider strolling to this delightful spot, finding a chair and tuning in to the creative storytelling and philosophical discussions by writers of a wide range of genres.

This evening we will attend a theatre performance in the festival.
