ITINERARY

DAY 1 | SATURDAY 6 JULY 2019

1ST OF 3 NIGHTS AT PHOENIX COPENHAGEN

ARRIVE COPENHAGEN:

Guests arrive at our boutique luxury hotel, Phoenix Copenhagen.

In the evening we gather with our Tour Leader over drinks and canapés to meet one another and to hear about the tour.

DAY 2 | SUNDAY 7 JULY 2019

2ND OF 3 NIGHTS AT PHOENIX COPENHAGEN

COPENHAGEN:

In the morning we begin our acquaintance with wonderful Copenhagen on a canal boat tour and enjoy a picturesque journey around the city’s bustling harbour.

After our private canal tour we take a stroll to Nyhavn, a 17th-century waterfront district, lined by brightly coloured 17th and early 18th- century townhouses, bars, cafés and restaurants. From there we walk to Rosenberg Castle, the summer retreat of Christian IV. Finally, we walk to Torvehallerne, a marketplace that combines farmers’ market stalls, shops, and eateries. There we find everything a great market and food hall should have: a bakery, fresh produce and meats, a bottling shop, coffee, wine, and so much more. It is a fascinating place to visit and we can possibly find ourselves a delicious Danish lunch there before returning to the hotel.

In the late afternoon we travel to the Tivoli Summer Classic, a festival featuring local and international artists that takes place in the Tivoli Concert Hall. There, since 1843, surrounded by roller coasters and carousels, ice cream kiosks, tombola stalls and balloon sellers, the concert hall has ensured that classical music can be heard in Copenhagen throughout the summer.

We then attend performance as part of Tivoli Summer Classic:

Vaughan Williams: The Lark Ascending with violinist Anna Egholm
Elgar: Cello Concerto with cellist Istvan Vardai
Beethoven: Symphony No. 3, Eroica

DAY 3 | MONDAY 8 JULY 2019

3RD OF 3 NIGHTS AT PHOENIX COPENHAGEN

COPENHAGEN:

This morning we have a private guided tour of the Royal Reception Rooms at Christiansborg Palace. The tour takes us through the Throne Room where Danish monarchs are crowned, the richly decorated Queen’s Library, the grand Royal Banqueting Hall and the Great Hall, where a series of tapestries chronicle Denmark’s past.

The afternoon is free. In the afternoon, you could rest, or you could explore Copenhagen further. You could visit Amalienborg, the home of the Danish royal family (open 10:00am-5:00pm daily). In this building, you will find the Amalienborg Museum, which has exhibits stretching back 150 years to Christian IX and Queen Louise, who were known as “the in-laws of Europe” because four of their children ascended to the thrones of England, Greece, Russia and Denmark respectively. Approximately a 10-15-minute stroll from the hotel is the Rosenborg Castle Gardens also known as the Kings Gardens. The gardens are the country’s oldest royal gardens and were established in the Renaissance style by Christian IV in the early 1600’s. As well as Rosenborg Castle (open 9:00am-5:00pm daily), this park also contains many historical buildings, statues and beautiful flowerbeds which are a spectacular sight during the summer months. You may prefer to spend the afternoon shopping, Strøget (one of Europe’s longest pedestrian streets), Grønnegade and Pilestræde have a wealth of shopping options. All are within a 20-minute walk from the hotel.

In the evening we meet to enjoy a dinner of Danish seafood specialties.

DAY 4 | TUESDAY 9 JULY 2019

COPENHAGEN TO STOCKHOLM:

This morning our exploration of Copenhagen ends and we take a flight from Copenhagen to Stockholm. A coach will take us to the airport in Copenhagen and from the airport in Stockholm to our hotel, the Grand Hotel, Stockholm, where the main tour begins.

Please note: There may be some changes to the itinerary depending on the final confirmation of performances.
