This morning we enjoy a day trip outside of Perth. We travel by private air-conditioned coach to New Norcia, 132 km North East of Perth. Founded in 1847 by Spanish Benedictine Monks, New Norcia is Australia’s only monastic town. The buildings in New Norcia’s Monastery complex, including the monastery itself, two schools and a church, exhibit Baroque, Gothic revival, Byzantine, Italian and Renaissance architectural styles. With its exotic buildings surrounded by gum trees and wheat lands, New Norcia is one of the architectural wonders of Western Australia. We experience a private guided tour of the monastery town, and then time is allowed for us to wander and enjoy the town at will. Guests can visit the Art Gallery and Museum, or maybe try the local produce such as the freshly baked bread, nutcake, pleasant local wines and New Norcia Abbey Ale.

After our visit we can relax on the return coach journey to Perth. Our evening is free.

4TH OF 5 NIGHTS AT DUXTON HOTEL PERTH

PERTH:

This morning we gather for our second informative talk by Fiona Campbell, about this evening's performance, Mozart's The Magic Flute created by Barrie Kosky and British theatre group 1927.

Following the talk we enjoy a guided tour of the Art Gallery of Western Australia. One of the strengths of the collection’s 17,500 works is its pre-eminent holdings of Western Australian Indigenous and non-Indigenous art. Twentieth century Australian and British paintings and sculpture are also a particular forte. Our private, guided tour will include highlights of the gallery’s collection.

In the evening we attend our third performance at the Perth Festival, Mozart's The Magic Flute.

DAY 5 | SUNDAY 24 FEBRUARY 2019

5TH OF 5 NIGHTS AT DUXTON HOTEL PERTH

PERTH:

This morning we attend our third talk by Fiona Campbell, about the performances we will attend today.

We then attend two further stimulating performances at the Perth Festival.

DAY 6 | MONDAY 25 FEBRUARY 2019

1ST OF 2 NIGHTS AT PULLMAN BUNKER BAY RESORT, MARGARET RIVER REGION

PERTH TO MARGARET RIVER:

This morning we depart Perth and set out for the Margaret River in our private coach. Our first stop is Bunbury where we visit the Dolphin Discovery Centre. Bunbury is on Koombana Bay, home to local wild Bottlenose Dolphins, and we take a Dolphin Eco Cruise out into the bay where we can see dolphins frolicking, playing, sleeping and feeding. These sights are supported by an informative commentary from the skipper. Following our visit time will be allowed for lunch.

Our first stop in the afternoon is the town of Busselton, famous for its 19th-century, 1.8km long wooden pier, the Busselton Jetty. We will take a train along the jetty to experience the beautiful panoramas of sea and sky that the jetty offers.

We continue our journey to our hotel in the Margaret River region, the luxurious 5-star Pullman Bunker Bay Resort. In the evening we meet for a leisurely dinner.

DAY 7 | TUESDAY 26 FEBRUARY 2019

2ND OF 2 NIGHTS AT PULLMAN BUNKER BAY RESORT, MARGARET RIVER REGION

MARGARET RIVER:

This morning we take a scenic journey to Cape Leeuwin, the most south-westerly point of Australia, where we visit the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia, built in 1895 as a result of so many ships being wrecked at the cape. We hear about the significance of the Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse, what life was like for a lighthouse keeper, and the history of the buildings. Cape Leeuwin is geographically significant as it is the point where the Indian Ocean meets the Southern Ocean. Those who wish can climb the lighthouse for wonderful views from the top, however, this remote, beautiful country, with its expanses of rugged bush and its wild beaches, appeals from whatever vantage point it is seen.

We return to a vineyard in the Margaret River for a delicious lunch including local wines. Following lunch we return to our hotel. The evening is free. You might like to rest or take a stroll and explore the area.

DAY 8 | WEDNESDAY 27 FEBRUARY 2019

MARGARET RIVER TO PERTH:

The Margaret River region is known for its gourmet foods as well as its wines. This morning we will sample some of these gourmet indulgences including olive oils, cheeses and chocolate. We will then have lunch at a boutique brewery.

After lunch we will return to Perth where our tour ends. The coach will make two stops, one at Perth Airport and then in Perth’s city centre.

Please note: There may be some changes to the itinerary depending on the final confirmation of performances.
