Arrive at our luxury hotel, Warwick New York. We recommend arriving at the hotel by 4:00pm.

In the early evening we enjoy a delicious dinner where we meet our Tour Leader Wagner expert Professor Heath Lees who will give an introduction to the tour.

DAY 2 | MONDAY 6 MAY 2019

2ND OF 7 NIGHTS AT WARWICK NEW YORK

NEW YORK:

This morning we meet for our first informative talk with Heath Lees. It will focus on this evening’s performance of Das Rheingold.

In the late morning we will travel by private coach to the Lincoln Center where we will have the unique opportunity to sit in on a rehearsal of The Ring at the Met as the company prepares and fine-tunes the production for performance, open only to those with exclusive 'Ring Leader' status.

The afternoon is free. This provides the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful central location of our hotel by exploring the city, possibly visiting some of the art galleries we do not visit as a group, enjoying the shopping, or just resting before tonight’s performance.

In the early evening we travel to the Lincoln Center and attend a Gala Dinner hosted by the Met prior to attending Das Rheingold.

DAY 3 | TUESDAY 7 MAY 2019

3RD OF 7 NIGHTS AT WARWICK NEW YORK

NEW YORK:

This morning we meet for our talk with Heath Lees, which focuses on tonight’s opera, Die Walküre.

Following the talk we travel by private coach to the Lincoln Center where we have an exclusive backstage tour of the Met, to find out how a production of this scale is staged, in one of the world’s most technologically advanced opera theatres. The multi-million dollar production, the most expensive the Met has ever staged, features an enormous contraption known as ‘The Ring Machine’. We will find out more about how this incredible piece of machinery fits into the production, and how the action unfolds around and on top of it.

Our afternoon is free, either to rest before tonight’s opera, or to explore the city a little more.

In the evening we travel by private coach to the Lincoln Center where we attend Die Walküre.

DAY 4 | WEDNESDAY 8 MAY 2019

4TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT WARWICK NEW YORK

NEW YORK:

This morning we have a private guided tour of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, where Frank Lloyd Wright’s famous concrete edifice has been home to Guggenheim’s collection of modern and contemporary painting and sculpture since 1959. Today the iconic spiral is considered as much a work of art as the paintings it houses. In addition to pieces by Manet, Picasso and Chagall, the institution holds the most Kandinskys in the U.S. and has one of the largest collections of Mapplethorpes in the world. Our private guided tour focuses on the museum’s innovative architecture, engaging with the building and artwork from several vantage points. The tour also reveals highlights of the permanent collection.

Following our guided tour we enjoy a gourmet lunch at the Museum.

The late afternoon and evening are free.

From the Guggenheim you might like to take a five-minute walk to the William Starr Miller House on Fifth Avenue which houses the Neue Galerie, a museum of early 20th-century German and Austrian art and design. One of the highlights is the Klimt Room, and its centrepiece is Woman in Gold, the sumptuous 1907 portrait of the Viennese socialite Adele Bloch-Bauer. The story of how the painting was stolen by the Nazis and returned to Maria Altmann after her legal battle with the Austrian Government is depicted in the 2015 film Woman in Gold starring Helen Mirren.

This evening there is the option of attending an additional performance of Francis Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmelites at the Met. For those wishing to attend this performance, Heath Lees will give a talk in the late afternoon that focuses on the opera. Please inform us if you would like to attend this performance.

DAY 5 | THURSDAY 9 MAY 2019

5TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT WARWICK NEW YORK

NEW YORK:

This morning we meet for our talk with Heath Lees, which focuses on tonight’s opera, Siegfried.

The rest of the day is free to do some exploration of the city or to prepare for this evening’s performance.

In the early evening we travel by private coach to the Lincoln Center where we attend Siegfried.

DAY 6 | FRIDAY 10 MAY 2019

6TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT WARWICK NEW YORK

NEW YORK:

This morning we have the opportunity of a private tour of MoMA, New York’s Museum of Modern Art, before it is opened to the public. This is the world’s largest and most inclusive collection of modern painting and sculpture with some 3,600 works dating from the late 19th-century to the present. The museum’s collection includes a comprehensive selection of the major artists and movements since the 1890s, from Paul Cézanne’s The Bather and Vincent van Gogh’s The Starry Night to masterworks of today. Our tour will be led by an art historian who will show us some of the masterworks of MoMA’s collection. Following the tour you are welcome to stay on and explore more of this fascinating gallery.

This afternoon and evening are free.

You might like to return to the hotel which neighbours MoMA to rest ahead of tomorrow night’s epic conclusion of The Ring. Alternatively, MoMA is located only five blocks from Central Park, so you might like to explore this beautiful sanctuary in the heart of Manhattan, including a trip on the Lake with a boat or gondola for hire from the Loeb Boathouse. For those with a love of heights, a trip to the top of the Rockefeller Center and the observation deck aptly named Top of the Rock could be included, again only a short walk away from our hotel, for spectacular views across Manhattan and the Empire State Building. Please inform us if you would like us to book this for you.

DAY 7 | SATURDAY 11 MAY 2019

7TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT WARWICK NEW YORK

NEW YORK:

This morning we meet for our final talk with Heath Lees, which focuses on the evening’s performance of Götterdämmerung.

The rest of the day is free to prepare for our final performance of The Ring.

In the late afternoon we travel by private coach to the Lincoln Center where we attend Götterdämmerung.

DAY 8 | SUNDAY 12 MAY 2019

Following our final breakfast at the hotel, the tour ends.

Please note: there may be some changes to the time of the rehearsal and backstage tour of the Met. These will be finalised once the Met confirms their rehearsal schedule.
