Accommodation

Wildman Wilderness Lodge

Situated on the beautiful Mary River Wetlands - around half way between Darwin and Kakadu - the Wildman Wilderness Lodge offers travellers the opportunity to explore this amazing region while staying in a choice of stylish eco lodge and safari tent accommodation. Wildman is a small-scale, high quality safari lodge featuring a variety of boutique and environmentally sensitive touring options, including tours of Kakadu National Park and cruising on the Mary River. It is teeming with wildlife and wonderfully remote, yet with all the modern comforts of great accommodation, delicious meals and wine to enjoy at the end of each day.

SAFARI TENTS

For those who seek a bit more adventure (needless to say, in style), this truly luxe ‘camping’ experience is a premium offering. Each fan-cooled tent is surprisingly spacious at 50m² and comes complete with en suite bathroom. Natural colours and materials from the region have been utilised and reflect the surrounding environment, and the entire experience provides a closeness to the wilderness with all the romance of the ultimate hideaway.

Safari Tents can accommodate a maximum of 4 people, however, we suggest a maximum of 2 people in double or twin share.

Habitat Cabins

The indulgent Habitat Cabins offer unexpected comfort in this wilderness location. Surrounded by breathtaking nature, these well-appointed, beautifully designed free-standing cabins offer luxury in air-conditioned comfort. As the sun goes down, we will enjoy our first short Festival performance under the night sky, followed by which we will enjoy the first of our gourmet 3-course a la carte meals, from a menu that includes only Australian and Territory produce such as barramundi, local beef, crocodile and buffalo, infused with the finest Australian indigenous bush ingredients, such as lemon myrtle, pepperberry and bush tomatoes.

DAY 2 | WEDNESDAY 9 SEPTEMBER 2020

2ND OF 5 NIGHTS AT WILDMAN WILDERNESS LODGE

MARY RIVER NATIONAL PARK:

The first full day at the Festival begins with the first of our Morning Mini concerts. This features a performance from a single artist at the Festival, along with a conversation and an audience Q&A with the musician and Artistic Director Anna Goldsworthy.

This afternoon we embark on the first of our activities exploring the Mary River National Park with a Bush Tucker Tour. The 2-hour walking tour starts close to home, as we meet under the shade of the Pandanus trees behind the Habitat Cabins. Here you will learn to identify 10 different food types found naturally in the surrounding environment, with an opportunity to taste them too!

Then, using indigenous ingredients and local produce you will help prepare a tasty Barramundi from the local billabong, which we put on the camp fire and later enjoy with a cup of billy tea. We finish the afternoon with a walk to the Home Billabong, spotting animals along the way as you hear tales of what lurks behind the bushes and under the water.

Following the tour, the rest of the afternoon is free to relax.

One hour before sunset we meet back at the main Lodge for our Leichhardt Point Sundowner Tour. We journey through forests and savannahs to Leichhardt Point where we stop for refreshments as we watch the amazing sunsets over the wetlands. Enjoy a glass of sparkling wine, beer of soft drink as we watch the sun go down, along with a selection of cheese and biscuits.

After sunset, we return to the Lodge for our first full evening Festival performance.

After the concert we enjoy our 3-course a la carte dinner.

DAY 3 | THURSDAY 10 SEPTEMBER 2020

3RD OF 5 NIGHTS AT WILDMAN WILDERNESS LODGE

MARY RIVER NATIONAL PARK:

This morning after our delicious buffet breakfast, we enjoy the second of our Morning Mini concerts with another musician from the Festival, preceded by a conversation with the artist.

This afternoon we break into smaller groups, where we have the opportunity to set off on a Wetlands Airboat Safari. Hovering above the reeds and lilies, stopping occasionally to take it all in, there is no better way to truly sense the vast and diverse beauty of this unique landscape. Enjoy scenes of the Mary River wetlands, an abundance of birdlife and get up close and personal with salt & freshwater crocodiles.

Guests will depart from the main Lodge in air-conditioned busses, which will then take them on the short journey to the departure point. The airboats can take a maximum of 6 guests on each boat.

Following the Wetlands Airboat Safari, guests are able to relax in the afternoon and soak in the magnificence of the surroundings.

In the early evening, we meet for our second full evening Festival performance.

After the concert we enjoy a 3-course a la carte dinner.

We stop by the South Alligator River before continuing past lush floodplains and billabongs to reach Ubirr Rock - one of the truly breathtaking sites of this World Heritage National Park. Famous for its rock art, you will also see panoramic views of the surrounding floodplains and escarpments.

We will then enjoy a tasty picnic lunch near the East Alligator River, followed by a short walk to Cahills Crossing to spot one of the many local crocodiles that inhabit this area. The last stop in the Park is at the Mamukala Observation Platform for stunning views over the wetlands and an incredible variety of birdlife. We return to Wildman Wilderness Lodge later in the afternoon.
