ITINERARY

DAY 1 | SUNDAY 22 NOVEMBER 2020

1ST OF 7 NIGHTS AT HÔTEL ROYAL SAINT HONORÉ, PARIS

ARRIVE PARIS:

Arrive at Hôtel Royal Saint Honoré, conveniently located in the heart of Paris. We recommend arriving at the hotel by 4:00pm.

In the early evening we meet our Tour Leader, Wagner expert Professor Heath Lees, who will introduce the tour. Together we enjoy a gourmet dinner.

DAY 2 | MONDAY 23 NOVEMBER 2020

2ND OF 7 NIGHTS AT HÔTEL ROYAL SAINT HONORÉ, PARIS

PARIS:

In the morning we have a talk by Heath Lees, our Wagner expert, on Das Rheingold, the first opera in the cycle, which we will see in the evening.

Hayllar Music Tours is speaking with Opéra national de Paris about arranging a backstage tour of either Opéra Bastille or Palais Garnier on this day. It is not possible to confirm this tour until the rehearsal schedules have been announced which will be in April 2020. As soon as Hayllar Music Tours has news about this we will inform guests on the tour immediately and update the itinerary.

The afternoon is free.

In the early evening we attend a dinner served in the Panoramic Foyer of Opera Bastille. At 7:30pm we attend Das Rheingold at Opéra Bastille.

DAY 3 | TUESDAY 24 NOVEMBER 2020

3RD OF 7 NIGHTS AT HÔTEL ROYAL SAINT HONORÉ, PARIS

PARIS:

In the morning we have a talk by our Wagner expert Heath Lees, on Die Walküre, the opera we will see in the evening.

The afternoon is then free. You may choose to rest before the opera, however, if you wish to immerse yourself more in Paris you could consider travelling on the Metro to Abbesses, the nearest station to the white domed Sacré-Cœur Basilica, dramatically located on the 130 metres high Montmartre. From the steps of the basilica there are panoramic views of Paris. At the beginning of the 20th-century, many artists had studios and worked in and around Montmartre, and there are still many artists painting and selling their work to the visiting tourists.

In the evening at 6:30pm we attend Die Walküre at Opéra Bastille. During interval we enjoy dinner served in the Panoramic Foyer of the opera house.

DAY 4 | WEDNESDAY 25 NOVEMBER 2020

4TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT HÔTEL ROYAL SAINT HONORÉ, PARIS

PARIS:

This morning we have a guided tour of the enthralling Musée Carnavalet. Situated in two grand manors in the colourful Marais district, it is the official museum of the history of Paris, housing over 600,000 objects. These include archaeological remains, rare paintings, views of Paris in bygone days and articles once owned by Napoleon. A series of complete interior design schemes salvaged from destroyed or renovated buildings reveals the development of the capital’s interiors from the 17th to the 20th-century.

Following our visit, we return to the hotel. However, you could stroll through the trendy, picturesque Marais district looking at the fashionable shops and cafes, maybe visiting the Place des Vosges, home to elegant arcades and the Musée Victor Hugo, where the writer lived. You might prefer to do the 20-minute walk to the beautiful, iconic Cathédrale Notre-Dame on the Île de la Cité, one of two remaining natural islands in the Seine within the city of Paris. You could visit the cathedral, or find a snug café with a view of the cathedral and just sip coffee and take in the scene. The afternoon and evening are free.

DAY 5 | THURSDAY 26 NOVEMBER 2020

5TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT HÔTEL ROYAL SAINT HONORÉ, PARIS

PARIS:

In the morning we have another informative talk by our Wagner expert, Heath Lees, this time about Siegfried, the opera we will see in the evening.

The afternoon is free. Today might be a good day to enjoy the wonderful shopping opportunities Paris has to offer. Close to our hotel is the Rue Rivoli which is amongst the best shopping places in Paris.

In the evening we travel to Opéra Bastille and attend Siegfried at 6:00pm. We have dinner during the interval in the Panoramic Foyer.

DAY 6 | FRIDAY 27 NOVEMBER 2020

6TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT HÔTEL ROYAL SAINT HONORÉ, PARIS

PARIS:

In the morning we visit the Musée d’Orsay, a museum on the left bank of the Seine, dramatically housed in the former Gare d'Orsay, a Beaux-Arts railway station built between 1898 and 1900. There we take a guided tour of the superb collection of French Impressionist and post-Impressionist works.

Our afternoon and evening are free. You might like to rest or, if you are ready for more of Paris, you might like to visit the Louvre, the world's largest art museum and a historic monument in Paris. Or, a 35-minute walk in a westerly direction from the Musée d’Orsay will bring you to the Eiffel Tower.

DAY 7 | SATURDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2020

7TH OF 7 NIGHTS AT HÔTEL ROYAL SAINT HONORÉ, PARIS

PARIS:

In the morning Heath Lees delivers our last talk on the Ring Cycle. Today the talk is on Götterdämmerung, the opera we will see in the evening.

The afternoon is free.

In the early evening we travel to Opéra Bastille and attend Götterdämmerung, at 6:00pm. During the interval we enjoy our final dinner in the Panoramic Foyer of Opéra Bastille.

DAY 8 | SUNDAY 29 NOVEMBER 2020
